A General Introduction on Coffee Beans

A “barista†is a person who concocts different types of coffee beverages in the form of a profession. An experienced barista will know how coffee beans are judged. Professional coffee drinkers or judges for coffee contests are called “cuppersâ€. Coffee buyers often work close with the baristas hoping to discover the finest beans that will make the best coffee drink in the world. This is good due to the baristas are the ones that deal and mingle with the customers throughout the day. Thus, they will be able to receive constructive feedback on the beverages directly from the consumers themselves.

There are about seventy countries which produce coffee beans. This includes the Middle East, the Caribbean, Africa, South America and Hawaii. Most of them are located near to the equator. Due to these countries have differences in the altitude, climate, equipment and techniques; they produce beans that are distinctive from one another.

Basically, coffee plants are divided into two main categories, Robusta and Arabica. The Arabica coffee plant has about half of the amount of the caffeine found in the Robusta plant.  It is chosen exclusively for the highest quality coffee for the stronger flavor and aroma.

Roasted beans that are light or “Cinnamon†are high in caffeine and acid. On the other hand, the medium roast or “American†is a more popular option among vendors. Another which is the dark or “City†roast can be found in most specialty shop. It has been through processing that assists to reduce both the acid and caffeine in it. As a result, a sweeter and less bitter cup of coffee is produced.  The next is the “French†roast which was named after the French’s inclination towards a more enriched flavor coffee. These beans are dark brown in color and have an oily texture on the surface. Last but not least, the “Italian†roast is the darkest on the beverage scale. Therefore, its bean is frequently chosen to make specialty espresso. The quality of the coffee can be seen easily by the deep brown color and aromatic smell it produces.
